Chapter 4 (SORA): An Act of True Love

Chapter 4 (Sora): An Act of True Love

Sora and Elsa walked down the icy fortress steps. the young Queen practicing explaining herself to not only her subjects, but also to her sister.  Unable to find a passable explanation for her actions, she shook her head in frustration.  "Why is it so hard to ask for someone's forgiveness?"
"Don't think of it as asking for forgiveness" Sora soothed the Queen as they neared the entrance.  "Think of it as you promising to solve all of the problems you've caused.  I think your people would like a Queen willing to solve problems over someone who asks for forgiveness."
        "You really think so?"
Sora was about to answer, when a huge bird like creature landed in front of the doorway.  In a rage, it cast a flame against the door, causing it to melt.  The bird's entire body began to glow in flames.  It soared into the air and perched itself on the chandelier on the first floor.  Squawking loudly, the beast began to blaze once more, causing the entire palace to begin to drip.
"What is that thing?" Elsa asked.
"Retribution" a shrill voice echoed throughout the palace.
"Maleficent!" Sora shouted, summoning his Keyblade.
"This is what happens when you go against my wishes, child.  Perhaps next time, you'll think twice before spurning an offer from me!  Mwahahahahahahaha!"
The phoenix screeched, causing Sora and Elsa to immediately cover their ears.  "If we don't stop this thing soon" Elsa reasoned, "the whole palace is going to come crashing down on us!"
"Then what are we waiting for?" Sora asked his friend, diving over the balcony and standing against the new Heartless his nemesis had conjured.  Within seconds, Elsa stood by his side.

Howling and screeching viciously, the Phoenix fires a ball of molten flame against the walls of the ice fortress, creating a path for it to retreat.  The beast soared off into the sky, leaving a weary and exhausted duo behind to clean up it's mess.
Before either Sora or Elsa could celebrate their brief moment of victory, a loud commotion is heard outside of the palace.  Both scurried to the entrance.  Elsa's massive Ice Guardian was subduing an incredible amount of trespassers.  The Duke of Weselton's men led the charge, brandishing their crossbows and weapons.  The duo broke past the beast and thundered towards the entrance to the palace, their intent clear on their faces.
"Stay back, Elsa!" Sora proclaimed.  "I think the Duke wants to kill you!"
       "What?" Elsa cried.
       "Just stay back!"
"Sora!" Elsa called.  Sora turned back.  Maleficent stood behind him, snickering.  Before he could do a thing to fight off the witch, she fired a bolt of lightning at him, knocking him backwards and smashing him through the walls of the palace.  Sora grabbed hold of the ledge and tried to pull himself up once more.
"Sora?" a voice called from the side.  Sora turned to see Prince Hans looking over in his direction.  "What are you doing here?  I thought you were looking after Anna."
"What are you doing here?" Sora asked.  "Aren't you supposed to be looking after Arendelle?"
"I needed to know that Anna is safe" the prince replied.  "Where is she?"
"She's already heading back for Arendelle" Sora explained, slipping as he tried to regain his footing on the palace.  "The Duke's men are trying to kill Elsa!  You have to stop them!"
Hans nodded.  "But what about you?"
"Don't worry about me!" Sora called.  "Go protect Elsa!"
Hans scurried off to fight off the Duke's men while Sora pulled himself back over the ledge.  Seeing Elsa being cornered by Maleficent, Sora rushed over to her side.  Leaping into the scene, Sora deflected another bolt of lightning sent at Elsa.  Maleficent fell backwards and vanished into the shadows.
As the Duke's men surrounded Sora and Elsa, Hans burst through the door.  "Stop this!  We are here to bring the Queen back unharmed!"
"So long as we have an eternal winter" one of the men scowled, "Elsa cannot live!"
"You're not getting to Elsa unless you get through me!" Sora shouted, aiming his Keyblade at the men.
"Sora, look out!" Elsa screamed.  Sora looked above.  The chandelier plummeted towards the Keybearer.  Sora grabbed Elsa's hand and dove out of the way, smashing their heads against the walls and falling unconscious.  Sora blacked out as Hans came to their sides.

Sora stirred slightly as he began to awaken from his comatose state.  He studied his surroundings as best as he could.  He was no longer in Elsa's palace and Elsa was no where to be found.  Instead, he was in a dimly lit room.  I guess I'm back in Arendelle.  That means Hans was able to rescue us!
"Anna?" a voice rang out.  "What's happened to you?  You're so cold!"
Sora opened his eyes and looked in the direction of the voice.  Hans cradled a weak and feebly moving Anna and gently brought her over to one of the couches in the room.
Anna coughed weakly.  "Elsa struck me with her powers."
"You said she'd never hurt you."
"I was wrong.  She froze my heart."
Sora sighed.  Elsa, what have you done?
"Hans, you have to kiss me!"
      "What do you mean?"
"Only an act of true love can stop the curse" the weak princess explained.
"You mean a True Love's Kiss?" Hans asked.
Anna nodded.  Sora weakly fell to his side and smiled.  At least Anna would be safe.  He prepared to fade back into sleep.  But the kiss and magic powers he hoped to here wasn't coming.  Curiously, he looked over to the situation.  To his surprise, Hans looked at his fiance with contempt.
"Oh Anna" Hans mocked, "If only there was someone out there who loved you."  Hans rose to his feet and walked over to the drapes, pulling them shut, darkening the room even more.
Anna looked at Hans as surprised as Sora was.  "Y--you said y--you did."
Hans laughed.  "Oh, you mean the whole engagement thing?  Let me explain.  As thirteenth in line, in my own kingdom, I knew I would have to marry into the throne somewhere.  Where else but Arendelle?"
"What are you talking about?" Anna asked weakly.
"As the heir, Elsa was of course preferable.  But I knew no one was getting anywhere with her.  But you--ha ha--you were so desperate for love and attention that you agreed to marry me just like that!"  Hans laughed to himself as he walked over to the fire place with a pitcher of water.  "I figured that after we married, I'd have to stage a little accident for Elsa so you and I could take the throne ourselves."  Hans dumped the water on the embers, completely sinking the room into darkness.
      "Hans" Anna cried.  "No!  Don't!"
"Then Elsa ousted herself as a witch" he sneered.  "And you and Sora were dumb enough to go after her!  And now you've both paid the price!"  Sora could hear Hans walking towards him.  Sora resorted back to his semi-comatose sleep.
"What have you done to Sora?" Anna asked, turning over and finally noticing him on the other couch.
"Blame Elsa" Hans snickered, patting Sora on his head where he had been injured.  Sora tried desperately not to give away his state, but Hans didn't notice a thing about him.  "It's a shame, too.  Elsa's killed both her sister and the hero of a thousand worlds.  My friend Pete told me enough about him.  If Elsa is not charged and sentenced for her crimes, Sora's friends might destroy this place.  What kind of a king would I be if I let my subjects die?"
"Oh no" Anna weakly cried.  "Sora?"
"Don't worry about him" Hans smirked.  "All that's left to do is kill Elsa and bring back summer."
Anna fell from her couch and looked her former love with equal contempt.  "You're no match for Elsa!"
Hans snickered.  "No, you're no match for Elsa.  I, on the other hand, am the hero that is going to save Arendelle from destruction.  With the help of the Heartless, of course."  Hans walked himself to the door and locked the door with a key he had in his pocket.
"You won't get away with this" Anna cried.
"Oops!" Hans replied bitterly.  "I already have!"  Hans slammed the door behind him.  Anna weakly made her way to the door and began to desperately call for help.  Too weak to make a sound, Anna collapsed into a ball and wept.
"This is all my fault" Anna whispered to herself.
"It's not over yet" Sora called, hopping to his feet.
Anna looked towards Sora.  "Sora?  You--you're--you're okay?"
Sora nodded.  He hurried to Anna's side and gently helped her to her feet.  He led her over to the fireplace and fired a fire ball into the damp fire place.  A few of the embers reignited, giving the weak princess some warmth.  "This should keep you safe, for now.  I need to go find Hans and--"  Anna caught his arm.
"No" she cried.  "Please, Sora.  You have to save Elsa.  I lost her once, I can't lose her again."
Sora nodded and aimed his Keyblade at the door.  In a flash of light, the door opened itself.  As he prepared to walk out, Olaf waddled in.  "Nice place they've got here."
     "Olaf?"
Olaf nodded, before seeing Anna's plight and hurrying to her side.  "Oh no!  What happened?"
Sora grabbed the snowman.  "Olaf.  I need you to keep Anna warm and by the fireplace.  She needs to keep warm until we can find a way for the curse to reverse."
Olaf saluted Sora and began tending to the weakening flames.  Even as he began to melt, the snowman continued to assist the princess.  Anna lowered her head in shame as Sora hurried out the door to find Elsa.  "Oh Olaf.  I thought I knew what love was.  But I was wrong.  And I screwed up everything because of it."
"It's okay, sweetie" the snowman assured Anna.  "I know what it is.  Love is...well....putting someone elses needs before your own.  Like how Kristoff brought you back here to Hans and left your life forever.  Maybe even how Sora's risking his life to save Elsa."
Anna raised an eyebrow.  "Kristoff...loves me?"

Sora hurried out of the palace and back into the courtyard.  The blizzard conditions in Arendelle were reaching their apex.  The glass windows of every building was starting to shatter.  The wind picked up as Sora struggled to look for Elsa.  He saw a figure heading out onto the Fjord.  Sora hurried off after the figure.  Hans was looking for something on the water.  And Sora figured it had to be Elsa.  Determined to protect the Queen no matter what, Sora thunder after Hans.

"Elsa!" Hans called to the Queen, who was fleeing from her kingdom once more.  "You can't run away from this"
"Please" Elsa called back to the Prince.  "Just promise you'll take care of Anna."
"Your sister?" Hans asked.  "She returned from the mountain weak and cold.  She said you froze her heart."
      "No..." the Queen cried.
"I tried to save her, but it was too late" Hans lied to the Queen.  "Your sister is dead.  Because of you!"
Elsa, overwhelmed by the news, collapsed onto the ice.  As she did, the blizzard ceased.  All of Arendelle was now visible.  Hans drew his sword and raised it over the weeping Queen.  As he prepared to swing it down, Sora thunder to protect her.  As he did, Sora was flung to the side by something moving faster than he'd ever seen.  As Sora recovered, he saw exactly what he thought he had seen.
A white haired, half frozen Anna slid her way to her sister's side.  "NO!" she cried, raising her hand to shield her sister.  As she did, the spell completed itself.  The princess solidified into a frozen statue.  The impact of the magic knocked Hans several feet backwards.
Sora, who was now joined by Kristoff and Sven, hurried over to Anna's side.  Elsa rose to her feet and stared at her sister's frozen form.  "Anna!  No.  No...please.  No."  Elsa cradled her sister's frozen form in her hands, before collapsing onto the statue.  "Anna.  No!"  Tears streamed down the young Queen's face as the realization of Anna's death sunk in.
Sora lowered his head.  Kristoff bit his lip and closed his eyes, too distraught to say a word.  He grabbed Sven and hugged him as never before.  Elsa remained locked to her sister's frozen body.
A faint glistening sound causes Sora to look up.  He gasped.  The light was coming from Anna.  She was being illuminated in the light.  As the light shined over Anna, she began to thaw.  Weakly, Anna fell into Elsa's arms.  Elsa looked up and cried.  "Anna?"  The two sisters embraced for the first time in years over the frozen Fjord.
Kristoff smiled as he held Sven's head in his hands.  Sora cheered.  "It's a miracle."
Elsa took her sisters hands.  "You sacrificed yourself for me?"
"Of course" Anna smiled.  "I love you."
Olaf gasped.  "An act of True Love will thaw a frozen heart!" he exclaimed.  "That was the act of true love!"
Hans struggled to his feet.  Upon seeing Anna alive and unfrozen, he gulped  Noticing the new arrival, Sora, Elsa and Kristoff turned their attentions towards him.  Frightful for his life, the Prince of the Southern Isles called to his ally.  "Pete!  Show yourself!  It's time to fight!"
Pete cackled as Sora and company turned to face him.  "It's about time we send this world into the abyss!"  Pete snapped his fingers.  Emerging from the ice covered Fjord was the Phoenix, who once more screeched.  Anna prepared to confront Hans, but Kristoff scooped her into his arms, put her atop Sven, and led the reindeer away.  Olaf waddled along with him.  Hans raised his sword as the Phoenix circled above his head.
Elsa turned to Sora.  "Are you ready?"
Sora winked.  "Let's finish this!"  Sora and Elsa hurried towards their enemies.

The Phoenix withered in pain until finally combusting itself and falling back into the water.  With the Heartless gone for good, Sora and Elsa turned their attention toward Pete, who vanished into a dark portal, glaring at Sora.  "We're not done yet, brat!"
Anna hurried over towards her sister as the two embraced again.  "Elsa!  I'm so happy we're together again.  I love you."
"I love you too" Elsa hugged her sister.  Elsa's eye twinkled.  "Love.  Love will thaw!  Love!"  Elsa, enraptured in the warmth of her love, raised her hands and began to make the entire Fjord melt and return to it's natural state.  A ship emerged from the bottom of the Fjord and carried Sora, Elsa, Anna, and their friends up and out of the water.  The snow and ice that covered every building in Arendelle melted and began to gather in a huge snowflake in the sky.  As Elsa wiped her hands clean, the snowflake sparkled and shined in the sunlight.  Elsa and Anna wrapped their arms around each other once more as the children and citizens of Arendelle raced outside to enjoy the warmth of summer again.
Hans struggled once more to his feet atop the ship.  Kristoff walked over to deal with him, but Anna stopped him and walked over there herself.  Anna stared her fiance in the eye and scoffed.
"But she froze your heart?  How is this possible?"
"The only Frozen Heart around here is yours!" Anna exclaimed, before punching Hans in his face and sending him back into the Fjord.  Kristoff and Sora cheered.
Olaf waddled his way into the scene, already melting into a puddle.  "This is the single greatest day of my life.  And quite possibly the last."  Before Olaf could melt completely, Elsa sent a small snow cloud towards the snowman, preserving his body throughout the entirety of summer.
Before Sora could join in the celebration, a voice called to him from thin air.  "Sora?  Sora is that you?"
"Your Majesty?" Sora called back.  Elsa and the others were flabbergasted at the voice coming from nowhere.
"We need you to come back to Disneyland" the King's voice called to him.  "I have an important mission for you guys."
"Um" Sora calle to the voice of Mickey, "how do I get back?"
A portal of light appeared by Sora as he finished his question.  Sora turned to his new friends and sighed.  "I guess this is goodbye."
      "You're leaving?" Elsa asked sadly.
"I still have other friends that need my help" Sora explained.
Kristoff nodded.  He walked up to Sora and shook his hand.  "Good luck, Sora.  That Pete guy and the Heartless look tough.  But I know you can take them."
Sora nodded, but before he could answer, Sven nudged up against him.  Sora pet the reindeer.  "I'm gonna miss you too, Sven."
The Keyblade hero knelt down to Olaf and smiled.  "Can you look after the kingdom for me?"
"You can count on Olaf!" the snowman saluted.  "Don't be a stranger, Sora.  So long as I protect Arendelle, you are always welcome."
Sora and Anna laughed and embraced each other.  "Don't stay away for too long Sora.  And good luck on your journey."
"I promise I'll come back to see you guys" Sora nodded.
As Sora lastly stood before Elsa, the two smiled at each other.  "Sora?  I want to thank you for everything.  If it weren't for you, Arendelle would be in utter chaos.  You really are a hero.  You promise you'll come back soon?"
Sora bowed before Elsa one last time.  "You have my word, Elsa" Sora vowed.  The two embraced one final time before Sora turned to leave.  Before Sora could leave, Elsa pulled him in gave the warrior a parting gift: a goodbye kiss.  Sora's face turned crimson before he stumbled backwards into the portal of light and out of Arendelle.
"Wow" Olaf laughed.  "Sora's a bit of a klutz!"
Elsa beamed.  "But he's our heroic klutz."
